I hate it when I miss a sneeze

Hello.
So we underwent a recording session of sorts in October last year (2010) which has finally resurfaced for the second part of the creative process. I'm just learning how to breathe underwater. During this second phase certain things have been happening, this being one of them...

Hope you enjoy it.

An Evening With Mishca

Recently we finished and released an amazingly bizarre EP titled An Evening With Mishca, which is coincidentally based around exactly that concept. You may remember Mishca from The Time I Made An Album cover artwork, but if you have no idea who this character is, then hopefully this will give you some insight. It has taken a while to finish, but I think it is the most accurate aural description of what an average evening spent in the company of Mishca is like.

A limited run of 20 original handmade and numbered album covers are now available for $20 each, or if you would just like to listen to the EP, send a nice email to thesomethingquartet@gmail.com and I'll get you a link to download the madness.

Written and performed by Mishca Rhys Hill and The Something Quartet.

A long time ago, before I started to enjoy coffee, I made an album. It is entitled The Time I Made An Album. I didn't make it alone though, I had the help of a lot of very talented friends. This was the beginning of "The Something Quartet".
These people (in chronological order, as according to the track listing) are: Theo Francis, Chris (Bugs) Miller, Libby Hamilton, Ben Sargeant, Michael Cathro, Ralph Miller, Tim Walsh, Paul Young, Anthonie Tonnon, Paul Cathro, Jared Smith, Michael Straight, and Andrew Straight.

After the recording of The Time I Made An Album was complete, it sat in a folder (although gathering no dust, as it wasn't an actual physical folder, just a metaphorical folder inside my computer) for several months, until my procrastination subsided and I began doing some mixing.

I decided to make a rule for myself that I wasn't allowed to do any more recording on the album, because then I would be there forever, and to just tidy things up and add interest to things with effects in Logic.

Once the aural side of The Time I Made An Album was complete, I began thinking about how to include a visual element, which was more extensive than your standard album. I also wanted to include a personal touch to each album, and make a very small limited amount of copies, so that each one became more special.
The way I tried to incorporate all these aspects, was by having a listening/drawing party with some friends, where the goal was to capture visually what came to mind while listening to The Time I Made An Album, the only requirement being that the artwork had to end up able to fit inside the CD cover. It was really interesting seeing how each person went about the task. Some people cut up their paper to the right size to start with, and others started with a huge piece and cut it down to size later on. By the end of the night there were 129 individual pieces of artwork, and so it was decided that that is how many copies of the album will be made.

The artists involved that night with the additional personalized album artworks are: Shelley Harding, Craig Freeborn, Mishca Hill, Jeremy Clark, Emily Hlavac Green, Samdrub Dawa, and myself.

After all the additional artwork was completed, Mishca took influence from some of his favourite pieces and created the album cover, inside, and back. If you can't make out the words, you will just have to try harder.

I would like to thank all of the people involved with The Time I Made An Album immensely (apart from myself), because without them the album would have just been a bit consistent.

The Time I Made An Album is for sale for $20, which includes the additional album artwork of you choice. If you would like to purchase a copy, please email: thesomethingquartet@gmail.com

Also keep an eye out here as I will upload pictures of the artworks which are still available.

Thanks,
Bugs
